As carriers aim to reduce the cost of sending phone calls and subscribers aim for lower phone bills, the number of people subscribing to Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, services will almost double this year, to 47.3 million, according to consultancy Infonetics.

The research company's latest Enterprise Telephony report shows IP PBX revenues growing 82 percent by 2009 and TDM revenue plunging 88 percent.
