[Engadget Mobile] Nokia N900 quick hands-on: The iphone, however, benefitted from Steve J's RDF, the amazing hype that anything apple commanded, the tech advance of multitouch, and the fact that apple products were 'in' and therefore more likely to be received with fanfare than mistrust. The N900 loses out through the suspicion of Nokia's software generated by the poor N97 (I have one, trust me, it's poor), its lagging marketshare at the high end, Engadget's poorly disguised bias towards apple products, the lack of a compatible RDF, but truth be told, it is the SAME experiment apple made with its iphone 1G.
[Twenty Sided] Twenty Sided » Blog Archive » Borderlands: Multiplayer Madness: While I don’t have a problem with port forwarding (I work with computer networks all day, so I deal with far worse than forwarding some measly ports), this sounds like a lot of stuff to drive me even further away from Borderlands. I got the single player game working, and it’s really fun, except for the random lag spikes, the UI that was obviously not changed a bit for the PC (nor is it consistent in which buttons do what, sometimes the scroll wheel works, sometimes the arrow keys, sometimes you have to use P-UP and P-DOWN, and sometimes, sometimes, left-and-right facing arrows actually have opposite functions, not identical functions).

[CNET News.com] Is the pen still mighty in the computer age? - CNET News: The disagreement came when he failed me for a completed assignment because I didn't include my "draft progression" with the finished product. IN its place I included what I call my "freethink" exercises.
[Signal vs. Noise] iPhone SDK: It's called Safari - (37signals): Jason, I’m loosing some respect for you: this is not forward thinking, it’s spin on preventing developers from building apps that would reduce Apple and Cingular’s control (like Skype). Perhaps Daring Fireball said it best: “If all you have to offer is a shit sandwich, just say it.
[WebmasterWorld] Microsoft shows off JPEG rival: If the clueless mass public start to use this damned format by default (because MS will probably make sure it comes installed as standard with everything on a newbie's Vista machine) then websites will end up full of their damned patented rubbish. And we'll once again see MS crowbar in an uninnovative, unnecessary, expensive piece of their proprietary crap.

[The Lippis Report] The Lippis Report » Download Library » Lippis Report Issue 75: The ...: Now with the confluence of a couple of key trends, such as web services and SOA, and all the different kinds of services that are being bundled and embedded into networks today such as policy services, network management, presence services, IP telephony services, security services, location services, there are a lot of services buried and bundled within a network fabric. But now these services are being opened up to be called upon by developers, so now no longer does a developer need to know where a particular resource might be in their IT arsenal, but can essentially call services and allow the network to find them.
[Simple Thoughts - Java and Web Blog] Search and destroy? Ken Auletta's book tells the story of Google ...: I have been in an interesting discussion with a very high profile client when Google Search came up. One recurring thought which came up was how the apparent strength of Google search, that made it the number one search engine, is its very weakness in several industries.
[The Housing Bubble Blog] The Housing Bubble Blog » Bits Bucket For October 29, 2009: No, just a product of the UK’s National Health Service, thank all things holy. The rest of the developed world is looking at the US at the moment and wondering what’s been put in the water, for a populace to rail so hard against their own self-interests and for the benefit of MagaCorp.
[MobHappy] MobHappy » Blog Archive » iPhone Thoughts Part 2: I certainly hope steve jobs doesn’t take the walled garden approach to third-party mobile applications developers as he has stated in making the iPhone a closed system for mobile application developers. I also hope his team at least consider a developer program and SDK so that applications can at least be certified…..this to me is the biggest strategic flaw in the iPhone as they would be the only major handset manufacturer not to have developer support (e.g Brew, Java ME, Symbian, Palm, et al.).

[The Jason Calacanis Weblog] The Case Against Apple-in Five Parts « The Jason Calacanis Weblog: Third, you’re ditching apple and its products ‘cos to you being unable to sync any media player with a specific software(iTunes) is the same as having a system-wide block to non-apple products, you’re not locked in, apple sells user experience, packs, bundles, a macbook without osx is just a nice industrial design example, but that’s it,it’s only when you add osx, ilife, iwork, that you get to experience what apple sold to you. Anyhoo, you’re paying too much attention to apple’s marketing, ditch iTunes or use something like Itunesmywalkman to sync any media player w itunes.
[Twenty Sided] Twenty Sided » Blog Archive » The Devolution of Windows: My only complaint, and it isn’t that relevant right now, since PC gaming is in such a trench these days, is that I can’t upgrade the video card if I want to, because nothing but what I’ve already got, or a worse one by NVidea, is compatible with it. But I’ve got Bootcamp and Parallels for those Windows-only needs (like gaming–which is actually about the only one–everything else the Mac does fine, as far as I’m concerned), and I have far fewer issues than I used to.
