[RickMahn.com] A post by Mathew Ingram and one by Mike Urlocker on the recent Vonage IPO really sum up my point on VoIP. Voice is truely free.

[Main Page -- A View from the Isle] Skype the Vonage killer? Will free SkypeOut... : though sometimes I wonder) know how to use”a standard phone. The question will be if the CableCos figure out a little clever collaboration to sink Vonage, then it's going to be a tough go. This is a bad, bad thing. Look I really don't like the fact that my only landline option is Telus. I'm pretty limited, by geography, to Telus or Rogers for cell phone service (I picked Telus initially because they had a better deal when I got a phone a year ago). Cable? Lots of places there is only one game in town. High speed Internet access? Not a lot of choices either. Vonage represented a way that I could have a choice. I could have "local" phone service and not be tied to Telus (if I had cable internet access, which I don't). Now? Now I think Vonage is going to have to do some serious work to beat Skype. The techie crowd, and we're the ones who influence the non-techies, is going to start wondering .
[Blogs.pulver.com] Jon Arnold's Blog: Vonage IPO Roadshow - Would You Buy a Telco ...: Vonage just closed out their best quarter ever, market penetration is still very low, and the annual growth rate for VoIP (CAGR) is forecast at 52% out to 2009. So, lots of upside to grow, and Vonage is ready to claim its share, as VoIP is forecast to be in use by 23% of the world's 185 million broadband subs in 2009.

[Jon Arnold's Blog] Conference Updates/More Media: It's been put together as a first-timer by 5 leading lights of Toronto's tech scene, including Mark Evans, Mathew Ingram, Rob Hyndman (they were all on my Bloggers Syndicate panel at VON Canada last month), and Mike McDerment (one of his companies is putting together my soon-to-be-launched website). They've managed to line up a great speaker roster, including uber-blogger Om Malik, and a lot of great sponsors are supporting it, which tells you there must money in this market somewhere!
[Gahtans Technology and Internet Law Blog] VOIP surcharged by Canadian ISP: According to a Vonage Canada press release, it has submitted a request to the Canadian Radio-Television & Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to investigate Shaw Communications (an ISP that serves western Canada) for recommending to its high-speed Internet customers that they pay an additional $10 charge if they use a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service provider such as Vonage Canada in order to obtain a “quality of service enhancement”
[Theglobeandmail.com] globeandmail.com : INGRAM: Your pal, Big Brother: This isn't terribly surprising, given some of the activity by Google and other tech giants when it comes to China -- such as the shutting down of a noted dissident's blog by Microsoft's MSN, and the identification of another dissident (who was later arrested) by Yahoo. And Google has been accused of at least helping to filter results before, including in this Harvard study.
