[Fax Answers] The problem is that VoIP standards are designed for low-bandwidth, loss-tolerant voice calls and not for 33.6 Kbps fax transmissions where data loss aborts a transmission. Even at a fax machines lowest speed, youre trying to transmit at 9.6 Kbps down a VoIP channel of 8 Kbps.

[Live in the Philippines] Philippine Internet Comparison : Live in the Philippines: At the time I got SmartBro ShareIt, I already had two SmartBro Canopy systems here at the house. The SmartBro Canopy system is a different type of connectivity from Smart Broadband. This one puts an antenna on your house, which picks up connectivity from the Cellular tower near your house. The Canopy system is similar to ShareIt, but provides a connection of only “up to” 512 Kbps. I was pretty happy with the Canopy system, and had been using it for over a year already. My plan was that after I tested out the ShareIt system, I would cut off one of my Canopy accounts, then get a second ShareIt system, and cut off my other Canopy account, thus ending up with two SharIt systems.

It’s an inexpensive experiment.
[Communications] Why there is no Internet QoS - Communications: Of course, if the broadband service provider (Comcast or otherwise) is actively identifying and discriminating against VoIP packets, i.e. giving them less than best efforts service, or if the available best efforts bandwidth (in either direction) falls below a few hundred kbps, then the voice quality will suffer.
[Mindanao Bob] SmartBro ShareIt VOIP Issues : Mindanao Bob: Well, I believe part of the problem was the huge difference on the ShareIt between download bandwidth and upload bandwidth. You see, my download speeds are consistently 1.5 to 2.0 Mbps, but my upstream bandwidth ranges from only 150Kbps to 300Kbps or so, roughly only 1/10th the speed of the downstream bandwidth. I suspect this is why my voice (since that would be upstream) is not passing through the VOIP system well.

[Communications] Layers violations still useful for wireless VoIP - Communications: Once there is widespread, broadband wireless Internet connectivity from competing mobile operators, WiFi hotspots, WiMAX and other approaches, it will be impossible to sustain a walled garden. Fixed-line Internet connectivity gives people access to myriad niche services that can't be offered under the walled garden business model.
[The Jeff Pulver Blog] The Jeff Pulver Blog: Comm Daily: HD Voice Push Could Face ...: Broadband should be priority one, said Independent Telephone & Telecommunications Alliance President Curt Stamp: "Shifting resources and attention from that task at this time doesn't seem to be wise." Pulver's suggestion to use universal service money to subsidize the HD voice effort could also lead to resistance. "Given the sensitivity to the size of the fund and increasing contribution rate, it would be a challenging proposition to expand USF to include HD voice," Stamp said.
