VoIP over Phone Wiring
[Jakeludington.com] VoIP as a second line: "If you still keep a landline, but want to patch in your VoIP line to the Line 2 pair (the outside two wires black/yellow), you can do that too! As before, you can either wire the red/green from the ATA to black/yellow in your [junction box], or you can plug it into any wall jack the easiest way to do this is to buy one of those L1/L2 adaptors from Radio Shack that breaks out one phone jack into three plugs one will be L1/L2 (normal), one will be L1 only, and one will be L2 only.

Speech is free
[WebImpresario.com] Leasing both, and your costs could be $50/person (leasing a cheapo computer - $30+skype # $3+ portion of internet access) + salary (excluding space, of course). That means the barriers to entry are getting even lower now. Skype hasn’t just shrunken the voip/telephony market, they’ve shrunk hundreds of phone based markets.

TopTone M808 VoIP Phone With PMP
[Daily Gadgets, Computer, and Electronics News] It has added a PMP functionalities on the standard boring VoIP handset and make it capable of playing MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files, listen to your favourite radio station with its integrated FM radio tuner, and display MWV, MPEG-1/2/4, and AVI video files. Unfortunately, the phone only comes with a small 1.2-inch 65K colors OLED screen, so hopefully that would be enough to keep you entertained while (desperately) waiting for someone to call you.

Wiimote to have mic, VOIP support?
[Engadget] There's still no official word from Nintendo, but after some careful examination of Nintendo Wii patents, NRevolutionA has spotted some pretty strong hints to a mic. The patent mentions two audio sources, one obviously being the game disc, and the other being a mysterious "audio in" that is hanging out with a pair of audio outputs.

VoIP may be next for archiving regulations
[VoIP News Net - VoIP Service Provider Info | Internet Phone News] This seems unlikely anytime soon, but it's important to note, nevertheless: IT chiefs were have been warned to prepare for the possibility of new corporate governance rules that would require them to keep records of voice-over-IP (VoIP) conversations alongside email, instant messaging and other forms of communication. Speaking at the Symantec user event in San Francisco last week, Jeremy Burton, a senior vice-president at the security specialist, said, “Financial institutions in the US already need to keep voicemail because it is stored on disk.

House bill proposes new VoIP E-911 rule
[Asterisk VoIP News | Daily News and Information] Under the House bill, a VoIP provider could market and gain new customers in areas where it did not have a 911 solution—something the FCC rules issued a year ago prohibit—if it used a national call center to route calls. However, the bill would require the VoIP provider to order connectivity to a selective router within 30 days of gaining its first new customer and provide direct E-911 service within 180 days to continue getting new subscribers in a given area, Halley said.

Beyond Voice 2.0 - Redefining a Legacy
[Digital Common Sense] I haven’t yet tried using an ATA VoIP phone line as the dial tone for PhoneGnome. I suspect if I did, or if I set it up on an analog line in my corporate office, I’d find an enterprise model for self-enabling context management that could shake the foundations of how some enterprise organizations manage voice services.
